The RYA Inland Waterways Crew Course is a one day course held at Nelson's Wharf. Courses run on any day by arrangement.

Price is £200 per person.

Maximum 4 delegates per course unless mixed with RYA Helmsman Course. 09:00 to 17:00. RYA Inland Waterways Handbook provided free of charge. Ideal for families.

This course looks at training delegates to act as crew. It doesn't go to the same depth as the Inland Waterways Helmsman’s Course but it covers basic boat handling and more about how to be a competent crew member. It is open to delegates as young as eight years old providing they are physically able to handle lines and locks. The level of strength should be aimed at them being able to handle an average weight tiller for a short time, to hold a narrowboat on a line using a fixed point on the towpath, (e.g. mooring bollard), and to operate easier sets of lock paddle gear.

It is a practical one day course with a minimum of theory and is not only an opportunity to learn new skills but also an enjoyable day out!

This RYA course is certificated and successful delegates must reach a satisfactory standard before they can be issued with the RYA Inland Waterways Crew Certificate. The standard is achievable in one day even for an absolute novice.
